This railtour started in Bristol and ran to Kingswear and return. 6024 King Edward I hauled the train between Bristol and Kingswear but failed on the return north of Newton Abbot.

This railtour started in London and ran to Kingswear and return. 6024 King Edward I hauled the train between London and Plymouth and the return as far as Taunton. This private charter was organised by the Strategic Rail Authority in connection with the commissioning of the double track at Burngullow in Cornwall. On 30th November the train ran with invited guests from Plymouth to Truro. On 3rd December 3440 hauled the stock back to Bristol. This was a really cracking day out with 6024. One of my favourite Rail tours ever. A real shame that 6024 is now sitting out of use at Crewe.
It was always good to see the King out on the main line. Hopefully it won't be too long before 6024 is oug of Crewe.

Thank you. They did make quite a sight. I think they were slowed by a bridge restriction at the bottom of the bank.

i personally don't think so, unless their owners change. Never say never, though.
35005 Canadian Pacific and 35028 Clan Line broke 105 mph and their classmate 35003 Royal Mail also broke 105 mph

It used to be but the 66s had started to make inroads by 2003.
The classic problem: every time it slips you lose speed. I'm very surprised they didn't insist on an assisting loco, which it didn't seem to have
